I’m in the midst of an 8-week fitness challenge – read the full contest deets here.
You: “But Gina, didn’t you just lose a bunch of weight?”
Me: “Why yes I did – just over 40lbs, in fact.”
You: “So… why are you doing an 8-week challenge then?”
My Fitness Backstory
I’ve ALWAYS been interested in health/fitness.
I’m also a member of that club that’s gained and lost the same 10-30 lbs a few times too. At least I’m a club member, right? 😂
I’ve ran a full marathon, a handful of halfs, done P90X, Jillian Michaels, worked out at numerous gyms and at home. You get the picture I’m sure.
I’ve worked with personal trainers twice in my life – once with Jason (in 2009?) and more recently with Cindy, my Kids Versus Bikini partner-in-crime. Cindy and I started working together back in May of 2017 and besides taking breaks for vacations and such, have been happily training together ever since.
Why I’m Doing the Challenge
I competed in my first bikini competition a few months ago (there’s talk of another next spring 😬) – what an adventure!
It was crazy and awesome all rolled up into one – you can check out the full competition recap here.
Weeeeell, as happens with life I didn’t follow a reverse dieting plan and just jumped back into the swing of things. The summer was full of tons of travel, family time and fun, resulting in a bit less time at the gym.
And that’s why I jumped into the Body Transformation Challenge that Cindy’s running at our local gym, Snap Fitness. I’m totally psyched to revisit my recent scale lows!
2 Weeks In (and what happened to week 1?)
If you followed along with my competition prep update posts then you know I’m a big fan of being able to tangibly measure my progress.
You’ll notice there’s not an update post from one week of this challenge though… why? Well, I started off all motivated and then by the time Thursday rolled around, my motivation/will-power came to a screeching halt.
Turns out I’m not the only one – the transition from summer to fall has been hard. Lots of carb cravings and desire for comfort foods. And not so much desire to eat fresh fruits/veggies and hit the gym. 😥
So while I don’t have any great progress to share, I’m still “in it to win it” – at least when it comes to my personal goals!
I take weekly progress photos with my phone, so I can physically see my progress during the challenge.
Left: I weigh myself weekly using an old digital scale from my days working for Jenny Craig (here’s a similar one) – I’ve always had a strong interest in health and fitness and helping others become their best selves.
Revised Challenge Goals
I weighed in the day before my bikini competition at 140.8 – 11 pounds lighter than I am right now.
At a minimum I’d like to take those 11 pounds back off – I’ll take 145 though, since I basically lost out on the first two weeks.
What’s Coming Up?
Well, this week’s off to a good start.
I’m 3/3 for exercise and already completed my “suggested exercise” for the week defined by the federal government. 😉
At least I still have my “guns” though. 😂
Diet’s been pretty on point too – just have to navigate a funeral and birthday party this weekend. They’re both on the same day, so how bad can it be?
How about you?
